However, Jerry is leaving Tom behind another ball, grabs Tom’s tail and threads through the holes in the ball and ties in a knot. The mouse and then stands in front of Tom, who is tying the fabric around the ball he thinks is in Jerry Tom has trouble tying the fabric, so Jerry helps to put your hand on it. The surprised cat unties the knot, and saw the mouse; he realizes his folly and chases Jerry fleeing. However, it is much more difficult because the ball tied to its tail. It smacks Tom in the back twice mouse skins behind a corner. Tom catches Jerry, but the momentum behind the ball makes the cat to let go.

Jerry runs into a bank and Tom can not follow because of the width and height of the ball. When Tom can not move, he turns around and sees the situation before the ball is released from the bench and slams into him, sending Tom on the way through the pins through a wall and a trash can.
Jerry runs through a cloth, not going anywhere. As Jerry’s career, Tom is pulling the fabric as a treadmill. Tom reaches the end of the fabric and Jerry cross to the other side of the table as Tom gives chase. Jerry tries to stop at the end of the table, but Tom’s open mouth is waiting! Although it can not stop, Jerry uses one of the cat’s whiskers with the same swing back, and then escapes into his trap. Tom then called the wall to get out of Jerry, and wait patiently as Jerry tiptoe through an electrical outlet on the other side of the wall.
The cartoon begins with Tom listening to the “Witching Hour” on radio, and was frightened by the horror story that is told. Halfway into the story, drama (creeps, chills ice in the spine, heart leaping in her throat) started going to Tom. At the end all shady, Tom flees and hides in a pot as a cry mispronounced. Upon hearing the voice saying “And that, my dear children, concludes witching hour tonight,” Tom sighs with relief, and the question was asked, “And I believe in ghosts … right?” Swallowing, Tom nods as if to say, “Yes, I do.”

It was produced by Rudolf Ising (who had virtually nothing to do with all production) and directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, his first collaboration that lasted over half a century, with musical supervision by Scott Bradley. The cartoon was animated by Carlos Urbano, Tony Pabian, Jack Zander, Peter Burness and Bob Allen.

The only screen credit on this film was “a Rudolf Ising production.” The film is characterized by the first appearances of characters that would later be christened Tom and Jerry and it would appear in more than 110 cartoons and short films, seven of which won the Oscar for Best Short Film: Cartoons. As such, Puss Gets the Boot gave the animated duo their first Oscar nomination, although short lost another Rudolf Ising MGM cartoon, The Milky Way. In short, the cat’s name is Jasper and the mouse is not given a name, but unofficially known as Jinx.

At over nine minutes in length, Puss Gets the Boot is the longest theatrical Tom and Jerry short ever released. It is one of three Tom and Jerry shorts where the title is a pun on the fairytale Puss in Boots. The others are Puss n’ Toots and Puss ‘n’ Boats.
